WHAT IS CBD? OUR BEGINNER’S GUIDE

The introduction of CBD has revolutionized the wellness industry. Over the past few years, the industry has expanded considerably, owing to the numerous potential health benefits of this cannabis compound. You’ve probably heard of it by now as a natural supplement or wellness product that potentially improves your health and is great for your body. But what is CBD, and how can you use it? We’ve written this comprehensive guide for you to find out more, so keep reading!

What is CBD?

CBD stands for “cannabidiol” – a compound derived from the hemp plant (a member of the Cannabis Sativa plant family). It is a natural cannabinoid that is found in the plant and is carefully extracted from the plant using various extraction techniques. At 1807 Blends, we use Supercritical CO2 extraction, the cleanest and purest extraction method currently available. But companies also use chemical solvents like ethanol, butane or propane – which we do not recommend. The more “natural” route may be more expensive, but as it is a product that interacts with your body, quality and purity is important.

When hemp or Cannabis comes to your mind, you might think of it as being a substance causing a “high.” However, CBD is 100% non-psychotropic and doesn’t give you any high. The substance in cannabis that causes a high is THC, which is present in negligible amounts in the hemp plant. In fact, Cannabidiol is said to inhibit the effects of THC, so you won’t get high from using products containing this cannabinoid. Beware of THC concentrations (if any) in such products however, and ensure products you use have minimal concentrations of THC if you are sensitive to this cannabinoid.

All CBD products on the market must comply with the recommended maximum level of THC (0.2% in many European countries and 1% for Switzerland) for them to be legal. We’ve made sure our Full Spectrum Cannabidiol products comply with European legislation, meaning they all contain less than 0.2% THC. So you don’t have to worry about getting high!

Types of CBD Oils

If you’re new to Cannabidiol, skimming through the numerous types of products out there can become overwhelming. Here, we define the three main types of CBD oils.

Full-spectrum Swiss CBD oil

Full-spectrum CBD oils contain all the compounds found in the hemp plant, including THC, terpenes and other cannabinoids like CBN and CBG. However, the THC concentration must not exceed the legislative limit in order for it to be legally commercialized.

Broad-spectrum Swiss CBD oil

Broad-spectrum oil contains all the compounds found in the hemp plant except THC!

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is pure Cannabidiol. Usually, it has a purity of over 99%. The oil from the hemp plant is extracted and then goes through a number of processes to extract all other compounds and contaminants.

These are the three basic types of Swiss CBD oils that you can find out there. We always recommend starting with a Full Spectrum product due to the advantages and increased effectiveness it has compared to the other two types of products.
